Isaac Van Wart Chapter of NSDAR members learned about United States Flag Retirement in front of the Van Wert American Legion Post #178 at a recent meeting. The young men of Boy Scout Troop 31, (sponsored by The First United Methodist Church) under the leadership of Scoutmasters Shawn Deitemeyer and Greg Amstutz, explained to the members: 1. how they decide a flag needs to be retired; 2. offered respects to the flag by singing “The Star Spangled Banner”; and 3. saluted the retiring flag while reciting “The Pledge of Allegiance.” Helping the Scouts and Scoutmasters were parent assistants Roberta and Dan Martin.
