Buckeye Girls State Participants Speak

At a recent meeting of the Isaac Van Wart DAR, guest speakers, Katie Kramer (left) and Brenna Kimmet (right) entertained the membership with tales of their 2025 adventures at Buckeye Girls State, held at Bowling Green State University. Both students at Van Wert High School, they learned about local government by running their own cities at various levels and had a great time. Katie was tapped into the news media department, working as a reporter and photographer of many events. Katie plans to major in broadcast journalism when she graduates. Brenna joined city council. She plans on a major in pre-med working towards an optometry degree. Both girls felt this experience will help them in their future careers. The 2025 Buckeye Girls State program, held June 8–14 at Bowling Green State University, welcomed more than 600 student delegates from across Ohio. Participants, who are high school juniors (rising seniors) chosen by the American Legion Auxiliary, engage in a week-long simulation of local and state government. The IVW DAR financially sponsored the girls through the American Legion Auxiliary. Photo submitted by a DAR member.
